And Now for Something Completely Similar .. but for November
Apologies if you got this twice again. I'm not attempting repeat advertising, I'm just nervous and some times hit buttons twicee.

Welcome back.
Or for those new to the Muse Letter:
Congratulations on finding a band of Muses to report to you each month. You should also know that the modern day Muse, Bea Silly (from the book I wrote and continue to rest upon like falling autumn laurels), hi-jacked the "theme" department of this Muse letter starting in September of this very year.
Ricocheting off of the Dog Days of August, Bea Silly decided we should go into a year of creative creatures to give us playful inspiration ... so we had the Bird Days of September, the Chameleon days of October and now, to make sure the turkeys are downplayed for a change this year, we have the ELEPHANT DAYS of NOVMEBER. We are breaking new ground here, because, well.. that's what Muses do. Plus, it's in the Muse Letter's mission statement... "breaking new ground, old rules, rigid facades and in good shoes"). In order to forge into new ideas, sometimes we must risk being silly. Consider the name "google". Yahoo? The Silly risk. Not a lot of bad consequences in being silly unless you have a facade you don't want broken.
Being silly can result in more a-muse-ment, more discovery and more of the type of friends you want to be a-round.

Take an elephant to lunch.

Bonnie Cady, Artist, Angel, Quirky Person
Bonnie Cady has an art opening this Saturday in Carlsbad, CA. November 12 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm.
She is displaying her creation altered undies including such favorites as the one you see at the right.. the "Bee" cup.
I sent her questions and being the creative being she is, she restated them and answered as follows:

Who:
This is tricky, like signing up for a computer dating thing
I ....* am a happy contented creative person, * used to be a research librarian and a photographer *am curious, always looking, seeking and wondering and then love to share the results. (My art follows this pattern.) * enjoy whimsical repurposing of objects and phrases
* am a serious believer in a woman's primitive role and NEED to hunt and gather (otherwise known as shopping), but otherwise am a mostly non-traditional person
* am mother to a wonderful son, Bryan * love to laugh and make other people laugh

Wear from:
From the Midwest, Detroit Michigan, an environment I considered very monotonous. I couldn't wait to see, visit and move to as many new places, do and try as many new things, and meet as many new people as possible. I was a bit rebellious, became a political activitist, and worked at a variety of unusual jobs.
My parents were creative and artistic, but unfortunately didn't know or understand this, they did not place any value on those talents.

My favorite activity in high school was to sneak out with a friend, say that we were studying, and go to an art theater to see foreign films. All of my art works and photography still show the influence of French films.

Whenever I've embarked on one of my quirky adventures that always surprise me with my fascination with such a thing (and seem to be at great odds to my parents expectations) I'd tell myself it was research....and one day I'd write a book.

Inspiration
I'm easily inspired. Sometimes it's the oops factor..something interesting along the way totally changes my direction. I had envisioned my first ceramic piece being a graceful sculpture. As I picked up the last available rolling pin, which had a design on it, and rolled out the clay, I attempted to mold the clay, but couldn't due to an injury to my hands. Since it looked like a blouse..I cut the slab of clay into funky shaped clothes (retro clothes...cowboy shirts, poodle skirts, purses, ballet costume). and then embellished them with ribbons, crystals, etc. I love the challenge of "making do" or using whatever is available.

(I hope you print this, Jill) (I'm wondering why she wouldn't think Jill would print it - Audacity)...Jill Badonsky is a major inspiration to me...her books, writing groups, muse classes, open mike performances and group. Everyone shares their talents...I'm exposed to new ideas and tons of creativity. I always leave with a zillion ideas bubbling in my head, later exploding (well, not really) sparking new plans, especially when I'm about to fall asleep. {That was an awkward sentence]. Someone in the muse class wrote hilarious things and realized I wanted to do that too, although up til that point I almost never wrote anything. Since then have had a lot of fun with puns, limericks and odd poetry.

Other artist, writers, photographers inspire me. Love checking out fashion magazines...a rich source for words for puns, visual concepts, moody pictures, fantasy dramas, graphic images. Usually a very small item sparks new ideas.

Books inspire and have changed my life. Three latest favorites are 'The Creative Habit' by Twyla Tharp, "One Small Step Can Change Your Life" by Dr. Robert Maurer, and " Mother-Daughter Wisdom" by Dr. Christiane Northrup.

Favorite quotes:
from the TAO TE CHING, Translated by Stephen Mitchell

Fame or integrity: which is more important?
Money or happiness: which is more valuable?
Success or failure: which is more destructive?

If you look to others for fulfillment
you will never truly be fulfilled
If your happiness depends on money,
you will never be happy with yourself

Be content with what you have;
rejoice in the way things are.
When you realize there is nothing lacking,
the whole world belongs to you.

The only way to fail, is to quit
Anon.

As Oscar Wilde said on his deathbed as he gazed up at the wallpaper, "that wall paper is awful -- one of us has to go."

This morning I took the hyphen out of Hell-hound and this afternoon I put it back.

A November Note from my Muse Child Jordan and her Mom, Jennifer Farr-Jones
Nosin’ Around Nosy November with Audacity

Out of nowhere Mom grabs my nose and starts rifling around. I’m learning about audacity. Now when I see a tissue, I’m on alert. I think I must have gold bouillons up there. Actually, I had never noticed noses until November was nigh. Noses. They have some audacity planting themselves onto the middle of your face. Why don’t I have one on the back of my head? It could be the nosy one. I’ve grabbed onto other people’s noses to see what’s going on, but they like that about as much as I like zucchini mush with organic paste. Some noses are big and bony, my dog’s is wet, pigs are peculiar and nostril neighbours do everything in pairs- sniff, sniff. Sometimes noses have slippery tears (drip, drip). That’s when Mom’s and Mom’s Moms everywhere become audacious? In this Muse letter, I’d like to address a nose injustice. Why is it okay for our big people to attack little noses when they see some microscopic drop, but kids barely brush their nose with the tip of their baby finger nail and they’re told, “quit picking your nose!”

Somehow any parent with a tissue has the right to go spelunking in your nose? What is this nice-looking, gentle white flag that makes a central post attack allowed? A Kleenex shoved up your nostrils and it doesn’t come out until it’s hit gold. My nose is 1/50th the size of a hand, leave it alone. I wish my nose were retractable or collapsible. This month, I’m thankful, I’m not an elephant. I wish I were a rhinoceros. In other news, I have two new lower teeth and they’re razor sharp. If next month is the month of crocodiles, I’m really going to be audacious if anyone tries to come near my nose again.
-Jordan (via her Mom)

Poetry, Elephants and Art
That Art to the right? It was done by an elephant named Gongkam! See art by elephants at http://www.elephantart.com/catalog/default.php or click on the picture.

Pablo Neruda’s book of questions are wonderful prompts for writing or inspiration for art: “What did the tree learn from the earth to be able to talk with the sky?” led me to write this:

The sky learned the language,
a language that the earth knows
and seldom tells things that root through it.

The earth speaks skyish on days that dream in orange,
by rivers that fork when burdened,
where ravens scold the pilfering sparrows.

The earth speaks skyish
and the tree once listened
which is not usually the case because
trees are busy making leaves and
tossing acorns to squirrels.

So the tree knows skyish
but not too well.
It mispronounces clouds
which causes thunder
which makes the earth
weary.
So the earth spoke oceanese
on Tuesday and confused the tree,
but it really didn’t matter because on
Wednesday, George McGleason
chopped down the tree and
used it for firewood.

Creativity Tip of the Month
Small steps and small questions over a long period of time help reshape the mind to make long lasting changes.

Ask yourself this question as often as you can remember (a note could help): "What one small thing can I do to make my creative life more fun?" You don't even need to answer.. just ask it often.. right before you go to sleep or while you are driving or showering are three good times to ask.
